I am excited to have a solo exhibition at the fabulous Granary Cafe in the beautiful market town of Watlington in Oxfordshire. Work in the show focuses on my landscapes and studies of the surrounding Chitlern Hills.

Building depth one layer at a time
I’ve been in the studio working on a new landscape painting, in my favourite long format. Starting today with mono-printed tissue layers and textures. Next up: working back into the ink and bleach layers to develop the sky further. I’m so enjoying the process and how it’s unfolding through experimentation and atmosphere.

There is something about the power of a line.

I want each horizon line to speak to the positive challenges and growth we face in midlife — not as limits, but as invitations to evolve.

What a fabulous time we had this weekend on my Draw & Paint BIG workshop @watlington_artshub

I get such a buzz from watching people grow in confidence, even in such a short space of time.
I feel privileged to be part of the journey taking a safe way of seeing and observing at a familiar scale through the series of exercises so that by the end of the workshop even the most nervous of drawers are wielding a huge brush of ink with abandon at a life size piece of paper.

I made it into the studio!
Today the work has just flowed and I’m really excited by what comes next. Back to my happy place and my long landscape format, back to my ink and water and bleach, the depth of summer skies, the height of summer clouds, and the strength of the land.

The light on the distant horizon tells me that they’re there is more, more challenge, more possibilities and further to go.

Keeping it local and supporting my high street.
I’m so excited to be having a pop up show in the fabulous Granary Cafe right here in the beautiful Chilterns town of Watlington starting 10th June.
Local businesses run by local people with a passion for the independent high street are just the best and they deserve our support.
I know that I am extremely lucky to live in such a vibrant, positive and independent town but every independent shop or business out there, where ever you are needs our support.

Favourites are ok as long as we don’t hold them too tight.
I know that my work is not to keep in a drawer in my studio to open and congratulate myself with but to learn from, to be challenged by, to drive me forward and always to see beyond what I already know.
Maybe if we see our favourite pieces as lessons we didn’t know we needed then maybe we rethink the idea of favourites?

Taking a break away but always ‘looking’.
As an artist I don’t think that you ever really take a holiday do you?
For me, even without a sketchbook and materials I am always looking up and beyond to either capture on my phone or my minds eye. I always want to know what lies beyond, what new challenge is just over the horizon.
I suspect it’s the same for so many other artists.
Artists: we’re never really on holiday are we.

It always starts in a concertina sketchbook…but why?
I know that everyone uses a sketchbook in a different way this is how and why I work in mine.
👉 I love to move and flow with whatever I’m using - ink, acrylic, bleach and the length of the concertina book gives me this freedom
👉 working intuitively and quickly gives a sense of freedom that I need to really ‘step into’ a landscape
👉it’s often the early shapes and marks of the first wet ink layer that direct my next layers
👉 filling an entire sketchbook on both sides before I begin a new set of works frees me from the landscape of whatever I was painting before
